Mae llyfrau gyda lluniau yn llyfr cyntaf mae plant gallu defnyddio i ddarllen, nid o reidrwydd darllen geiriau ond darllen y stori o’r lluniau. “Young children’s first experiences with books will be predominantly centered on picture books. Picture books rely on images to carry the narrative sequence and evaluation, either entirely or in combination with some text” ( Whitehead, 2010, t.129). “Teachers, along with parents, are vital in their role of encouraging in young children an awareness of the value and pleasure to be gained through reading and in developing their literacy skills. Children must experience pleasure and interest from reading and in order for them to choose to read themselves from the earliest stages, they must be fully involved in the reading process” (Teachers.org.uk, 2018). Mae dweud stori nid yn unig yn hwyl i blant ond mae hefyd yn datblygu ei sgiliau llythrennedd a chreadigol. Yn ô l (TeachingEnglish | British Council | BBC, 2017) dyma beth mae dweud stori gallu cynnig i blant: “ Children have an innate love of stories. Stories create magic and a sense of wonder at the world. Stories teach us about life, about ourselves and about others. Storytelling is a unique way for students to develop an understanding, respect and appreciation for other cultures, and can promote a positive attitude to people from different lands, races and religions.” Mae hyn yn dangos faint o ddyfnder sydd mewn dweud stori a sut mae’n helpu plant mewn bywyd tu allan i’r ysgol.
